Not an MD player, this device is described as a “Hard Disc Desktop Audio System.” It contains a 6GB HDD that it can store music on, either ripped from CDs (it estimates a 5-12 minute rip time) or transferred from memory sticks. It has CD title database for 85,000 discs, and will automatically match up discs with metadata (it seems it has this database internally, I don't see any way for it to actually update the database).

The cool thing about this device is that is can transfer music from its internal HDD to some netMD capable devices. I haven't been able to find a complete listing of supported devices, but it mainly seems to only be the portables. It shows the device connected to the MZ-N1 in promotional photos.

It looks like it uses a check-in/check-out system for music transfers, so it may be more trouble than it is worth compared to just using WMD/PMD on a modern PC.
